Korea Forest Service at COP 30 with the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry: Strengthening Forest Fire Management System in Indonesia

The Korea Forest Service (KFS) participated in the 30th UN Climate Change Conference (COP 30) in Belem, Brazil, to present the progress of its collaboration with the Indonesia Ministry of Forestry in developing forest ad land fire management systems, particularly in South Sumatera. This engagement highlights the shared commitment of both countries to enhancing forest resilience through strategic, technology-driven cooperation.

During the Talkshow session on strengthening the capacity of Manggala Agni, Indonesia’s forest fire brigade, Dr. Song Minkyung from Korea Forest Service emphasized global strategies and emerging opportunities for collaboration to support capacity building, technology enhancement, and improved effectiveness in forest fire management across Indonesia, especially in South Sumatera.

In the same session, Dr. Israr Albar, Deputy Director of Forest Fire Management at the Ministry of Forestry, highlighted the importance of international collaboration to accelerate readiness at the community and field levels. He highlighted that global partnerships such as the cooperation with KFS play a crucial role in strengthening command systems, response speed, and operational resilience within Manggala Agni in addressing wildfire risks.

The collaboration between the Korea Forest Service and the Indonesian Ministry of Forestry reflects a shared commitment to protecting forest ecosystems through sustainable, long-term strategies. This partnership demonstrates that international cooperation can deliver practical, adaptice, and impactful solutions to address wildfire challenges.
