Groundbreaking Forest and Land Fire Management Center in Manggala Agni Daops XVII Sumatra

A groundbreaking ceremony for the “Forest and Land Fire Management Center” building was held on Monday, December 2, 2024. This event was carried out by the Korea-Indonesia Forest Cooperation Center, the Directorate of Forest and Land Fire Management, the Directirate General of Climate Change Management, MoEF and the Sumatera Regional Climate Change Management Center.

The Forest and Land Fire Management Center is a joint initiative by the Government of Republic of Indonesia through the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF), and the Government of Republic of Korea (RoK) through the Korea Forest Service (KFS) in implementing the project “Development of Forest and Land Fire Management System in South Sumatera, Indonesia”.

The building is expected to become a center of excellence for forest and land fire management. It will function as an integrated command center and provide comprehensive training programs, with a specific focus on peatland areas and the Manggala Agni DAOPS OKI work area. This initiative aligns with the broader goal of achieving the 2030 FOLU Net Sink target. Through this event, the development plan and progress were informed and socialized to stakeholders. Representatives of central government and regional government institutions including the institutions under the work area of Manggala Agni DAOPS XVII OKI also participated in the event.

The successful implementation of this project hinges on the support of both central and regional governments. Through this event, it is hoped that KIFC could establish cooperation and support from various parties to construct the Forest and Land Fire Management Center Building at Manggala Agni DAOPS XVII OKI.
