Enhancing Ground Mobility, Sumatra’s Manggala Agni Personnel Attend 4-Wheel Vehicle Maintenance Technical Training
OKI, July 3, 2026 – Forest and land fires (karhutla) remain a recurring challenge for Indonesia, particularly in fire-prone regions like South Sumatra. The unique characteristics of peatlands, which pose a risk of underground fires, combined with extreme terrains, demand peak readiness from both personnel and field operational equipment. In response to the 2026 climate situation marked by the El Niño phenomenon, mitigation and preparedness efforts continue to be aggressively pushed at the grass-roots level.
To ensure optimal personnel mobility across difficult terrains, the Directorate of Forest Fire Management under the Directorate General of Forestry Law Enforcement of the Ministry of Forestry, alongside Manggala Agni OKI, in collaboration with the Korea-Indonesia Forest Cooperation Center (KIFC), held a Technical Training on 4-Wheel Vehicle Maintenance. This activity was conducted under the framework of the “Development of Forest and Land Fire Management System in South Sumatra” project, reflecting a synergy between the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Korea Forest Service of the Republic of Korea.
The technical training, which spanned over three days from July 1 to 3, 2026, was centered at the Forest and Land Fire Management Center, Manggala Agni Daops Sumatera XVII Headquarters, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province.
As the frontline brigade in forest and land fire management, Manggala Agni requires robust transportation support to reach remote and difficult-to-access areas. Through this technical training, a total of 20 personnel representing various Manggala Agni Daops across the Sumatra region were trained to acquire in-depth knowledge and basic skills in four-wheel vehicle maintenance and repair.
The scope of this training was comprehensively designed, encompassing both theoretical learning and hands-on practice. During the program, participants received materials regarding:
- Maintenance of the engine system and power train.
- Maintenance of the lubrication, filtration, fuel, and cooling systems.
- Maintenance of the electrical system, battery, suspension, steering, and braking systems.
- Care of wheels, tires, vehicle frames, as well as overall periodic inspection of operational vehicles.
To provide a solid understanding based on industry standards, this technical training brought in expert speakers directly from PT. Lautan Berlian Utama Motor. All funding for this strategic agenda was fully supported by the budget of the bilateral cooperation project for forest and land fire management in South Sumatra.
