Ogan Komering Ilir, June 25, 2025 – The Directorate of Forest Fire Management, under the Directorate General of Law Enforcement, Ministry of Forestry (MoF), in collaboration with the Korea Forest Service (KFS) through the Korea-Indonesia Forest Cooperation Center (KIFC), to strengthened the capacity of Manggala Agni (Forest Fire Management Personnel) through a Technical Training (Bimtek) on Two-Wheel Vehicle Mechanics. The training was held at the Manggala Agni DAOPS XVII Sumatera Headquarters in Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI), South Sumatera, on June 24-25, 2025.
This training program was attended by 20 Manggala Agni Personnel from the Sumatera Regional Operations Office, the South Sumatera Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA), and Way Kambas National Park. This training was organized to improve the operational effectiveness of Manggala Agni members who work in off-road areas such as peatlands.
In his remarks, Ferdian Krisnanto, Head of Sumatera Regional Forest Fire Management Agency, emphasized that “Unfit motorcycles significantly increase the risk of accidents in the field. The limited number of motorcycles suitable for operation also limits the scope of forest fire prevention activities.”
A similar view was shared by Dr. Israr Albar, Deputy Director of Forest Fire Management Directorate, who stated the motorcycle maintenance is crucial for ensuring the continuity of equipment usage, and he hopes this kind of training can also be implemented in other provinces.
Kim Hyoung Gyun, Project Manager for the Development of Forest and Land Fire Management System in South Sumatera, added that cross-country cooperation through Official Development Assistance (ODA) aims to enhance the capacity of Manggala Agni, allowing for reduced vehicle maintenance costs and increased resource efficiency.
In addition to the technical training, KIFC also donated 100 water canteen and various motorcycle spare parts to Directorate of Forest Fire Management.
Through this activity, it is expected that Manggala Agni personnel will not only be able to operating vehicles in difficult terrain but will also possess the technical skills to independently ensure the readiness of their equipment. This way, Manggala Agni’s role as the frontline force in forest and land fire control can be carried out more efficiently.
This training is part of the project “Development of Forest and Land Fire Management System in South Sumatera”, a bilateral cooperation initiative between the Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia and the Korea Forest Service of the Republic of Korea. The program serves as a concrete manifestation of the two countries’ commitment to environmental conservation, forest fire risk mitigation, and enhancing institutional capacity at the field level.
