Dr. Park Eun-sik, Korea Forest Service, Visited the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Jakarta

On 27 February 2015, Dr. Park Eun-sik, Acting DG of International Affairs Bureau, Korea Forest Service visited the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (MoEF). During his visit, he had met the Secretary General, the Director General of Forestry Planning and the Director of Forest Land Utilization and Forest Management Unit Establishment.

In the meeting with the Secretary General, it was discussed about the possible new projects that could be proposed by the MoEF for further collaboration between Indonesia and Korea on the field of forestry and environment.  The Director of International Cooperation of MoEF who accompany the Secretary General in the meeting, mentioned that, on the previous visit of the DG of International Affairs Bureau, KFS to the Minister of EF on 15 January 2015, there were five topics for further collaboration project that could be discussed during bilateral meeting, i.e:

  1. Development of Arboretum in provinces as part of creating urban forest;
  2. Development of internet based mapping system for the utilization of forest resources and supporting one map policy;
  3. Bio-energy development;
  4. Low-carbon green village development;
  5. Watershed ecosystem restoration.

The MoEF currently preparing Concept Notes for those five topics to be discussed on the next bilateral meeting.  During this meeting was also discussed about the best time for conducting the bilateral meeting.  It was agreed by both side that the bilateral meeting will be held on 1-4 June 2015 in Korea.

During the meeting with the DG of Forestry Planning, it was discussed about Tasik Besar Serkap FMU/REDD+ Project in Riau.  The DG mentioned that the MoEF consistently support the project, in which for the day to day activities of the project is monitored by the Director of  Forest Land Utilization and Forest Management Unit Establishment as the Project Executing Agency (PEA).

Lastly, during the visit to the Director of Forest Land Utilization and Forest Management Unit Establishment, it was discussed in more detail about the activities of FMU/REDD+ project.  It was agreed in the meeting that the 3rd JSC meeting of the project will be held in Pekanbaru, Riau on 1st April 2015, and the field visit to the project site will be held on 2nd April 2015.  It was also agreed that the High Level Dialogue on REDD+ 2015 will be held in Indonesia, and the venue will be in Jogjakarta on end of August or early September 2015.
