Director General of International Affairs Bureau, Korea Forest Service, Visited the Minister of Environment and Forestry in Jakarta

On 15 January 2015, the Director General of International Affairs Bureau, Korea Forest Service, Dr. Lee Chang-jae, and Deputy Director of International Cooperation Division, International Affairs Bureau, Ms. Cheon Hyun-joo,  visited the Ministry of Environment and Forestry to discuss the establishment of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO).  During the 4th Dialogue Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) held from 30 September to 1 October 2014 in Lao PDR, the Meeting finalized the text of the AFoCO Agreement except the Article 8 Assembly regarding the decision making.  The Meeting also agreed to put the latest drfat of the AFoCO Agreement through diplomatic channel for finalization in order to sign the AFoCO Agreement in 2015.  This visit is to develop mutual support from the two countries for  the establishment of AFoCO.

The Minister of Environment and Forestry accompanied by the Secretary General and Senior Advisor to the Minister on Forestry Economics and International Trade and also the Director of International Cooperation welcomed the visit of the Director General and had an important discussion for the establishment of AfoCO and other issues. During the discussion it was also agreed that at the next bilateral meeting between the two countries that wil be held in Korea will discuss about the possibility of cooperation in the field of:

  1. Development of Arboretum in provinces as part of creating urban forest;
  2. Development of internet based mapping system for the utilization of forest resources and supporting one map policy;
  3. Bio-energy development;
  4. Low-carbon green village development; and
  5. Watershed ecosystem restoration.

After visiting the Minister, the Director General also visiting the Director General of Forestry Planning, the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, to discuss about the progress of the Collaboration Project of REDD+ at Tasik Besar Serkap.
