The Korean Embassy and KIFC Participated on the Indonesia Tree Planting Day 2014 in Wonogiri, Central Java.
The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, attended the commemoration of Indonesia Planting Trees Day 2014 that was held in Tempursari Village, District of Wonogiri-Central Java on Saturday, November 29th, 2014. The event was organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in collaboration with the Provincial and Local Government. The First Lady Iriana Widodo, also attended this commemoration together with representatives of the House of Representatives, some Ministers, representatives of some Embassies., Head of Political Parties, some Governors and Mayors, Directors of State owned companies, community organizations, students, scouts, leaders and local communities with a total number of approximately 2,000 people.
The Korean Embassy was also taken part in the event, represented by Mr. Lee Sangick and the Korea-Indonesia Forest Center (KIFC) represented by Mr. Sugeng Marsudiarto.
The commemoration is held every 28 November, both at the central government and local government (Provinces and Districts). This moment as an encouragement for people across the country to plant trees especially on critical landis, both in forest area and outside of the forest areas.
In his speech, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) ordered that starting next year, there should not be any ceremonial anymore for the Planting Trees Day, the planting activity must be real, and done by all the people who attending the event. The President doesn’t want the people who attend this event just watched the ceremony without engaging in tree planting activities. The President expected that it does not happen again in the same commemoration next year.
On that occasion, the President Jokowi also engage in dialogue with some local residents and students, before planting tress together with all the invitees.
